Yes!!! Spring starts today and we also celebrate the International day for Happiness. Did you know that this emotional state is one of the most powerful medicine and that it contributes to the regeneration not only of the mind and soul but of the physical body as well?

Probably you have realized that when you feel well, your body functions better and recovers more quickly from a process of imbalance. The reason for that is that high emotions like joy, happiness, gratitude or love flow freely through the body-mind, the autonomic nervous system is in parasympathetic mode. Let me explain: the autonomic nervous system controls all involuntary actions like the heartbeat or the release of gastric juices in your stomach. It has two acting modes that are the Sympathetic NS, in charge of activating the necessary reactions needed to keep us alive in a dangerous situation; and on the other hand the Parasympathetic NS in charge of maintaining the body in a state of calm and tranquility in which all bodily systems work in harmony.

When we feel high emotions or feelings like happiness, through our body can freely flow hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, serotonine and endorfines. This is only possible when the nervous system is in parasympathic mode and it happens that only in this modus operandi the body can regenerate tissues, repair itself and sustain homeostasis. Cells reproduce when they are in a relaxed and distended environment and therefore, one of the best things that we can do to support the rebirth of the body-mind is by generating the highest emotional states, that is, by being happy. This is one of the most powerful benefits of meditation (just saying).

It might seem impossible, but the experience of yogins for thousands of years proves that we can be happy independently from outer circumstances. Ayurveda and yoga offer the perfect tools for that, not only because life is a lot nicer lived this way, but because it is medicine for the body, the mind and the soul.
