The nutrients that your body needs and why

Besides lots of love, respect and appreciation, your body needs different kinds of nutrients that we introduce in it by means of the foods we eat with the purpose of creating healthy tissues that are full of vitality. Eating well is more simple that we tend to think, this is why I would like to review what those food groups are and why we should eat them every day.  

When all groups are included and our plate overflows with colors,. tastes and textures, we can make sure that all nutritional needs are more than covered.

Before continuing, it is important to know that most foods share nutrients of several groups, even though I am presenting them in their dominant type.

Farinaceous and starches 

Whole grain cereals, their products and most root vegetables. They are high in carbohydrates and essential amino acids. Provide the necessary energy that nurtures the nervous system and the brain. They protect us from diseases and imbalances.

Cereals: oats, barley, rye, spelt, millet, quinoa, wheat, etc

Starchy roots: sweet potato, turnip, potato, carrot, yuca, etc

Proteins

Contain the amino acids that form proteins. Necessary for the creation of cells and tissues in general. Also, they are in charge of the composition of hormones, anti bodies and enzymes.

Legumes: beans, chickpeas, peas, lentils, tempeh, tofu, etc

Seitan.

Many vegetables, cereals, nuts and seeds also have essential amino acids.

Vegetables and fruits

These groups of foods come packed with phytonutrients, minerals and vitamins that support the radiant health of our physical body. Each one of them has a specific function and are essential for the immune system. Key for the creation of bone tissue, for regulating the metabolism and keeping a balanced state of hydration.

Healthy fats

They are part of the cell membranes, allow the absorption of minerals and vitamins, the coagulation and our movement.

Nuts: almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, etc.

Seeds: pumpkin, chia, sunflower, linseed, sesame, etc.

(Nuts and seeds are also a source of proteins and minerals)

Oil: extra virgin olive oil, sesame, hemp, coconut, etc

Water

Our body is made mostly of water and replenishing the levels of H2O is fundamental for our health, so we can not forget about drinking our eight glasses daily, two liters more or less.
